This was a one off training session with the teachers at Westdean Primary School. Using photos and footage of Brighton, the senior students used iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand to produce their short movies using MacBooks - see movies here

Westdene Movie Club - Lego Animations

Over three sessions, the pupils used Lego to create characters and brought them to life using I Can Animate software. Their animations were then imported into iMovie so they could produce a final short movie using the MacBook laptops - see animations here

Westdene GarageBand

Westdene Primary School Year 6 classes have been working on a GarageBand project linked with their music curriculum. During the 3 sessions the students learnt how to create loops, build tracks and crop/edit instruments. The students created 3 different tracks during the workshops building from an 8 bar basic track to a 30 second track over a video clip, including car chase, nature scene and a war battle.

The students and staff really enjoyed the sessions, learning lots of new skills enabling them to carry on their wonderful work on the school’s new MacBooks - Listen to pupils’ tracks here

Anti Bullying Week

Brighton & Hove’s Playing for Success and Apple RTC have produced two projects with St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. Working on a suite of MacBook laptops and cameras, Years 4 and 6 filmed, edited and produced animations and short videos to support and help raise awareness for anti-bullying.

Animation

These short, two hour, hands-on sessions explored some simple stop frame animation techniques and showed how, when coupled with Apple’s iLife suite, the results can easily be shared through online blogs and podcasts. The students created their own figures from plasticine and used them to make their own animation videos.
Teachers were invited to the second session to learn about stop frame animation and how to use the software for classroom activities.
